Tried copying system tools folder( defrag etc.) to desktop
and deleted folder completely. Does not show up even in
file search at all. How can I reinstall tools from xp cd
or anywhere else.

Also. search for the files by name, date or type. You may
have nested them inside another folder.

Try recycle bin - you are looking there for a folder of shortcuts,
presuming it was the Menu items you dragged and deleted.

If you can't find them they are shortcuts to programs: under
%SystemRoot%\System32\ for

restore\rstrui.exe (System Restore)
usmt\migwiz.exe (Files and settings Transfer)
dfrg.msc (defragmenter)
cleanmgr.exe (Disk Cleanup
charmap.exe (Character Map)
ntbackup.exe (Backup)

and
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO\msinfo32.exe"
(System Information)

and
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe
::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}\::{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

(which will wrap - all that is one) for Scheduled tasks. That one I
wold make by right dragging it out of Control Panel to the desktop and
taking 'Create shortcut here' instead
