Stupid DVD drive.......

Ok, so i'm new to the boards and i hope that someone out in thes
boards might be able to help me. Here's the problem, as i wa
ripping music onto my computer my dvd drive popped out an erro
saying something about unable to copy music, something or other.
Anyways, the major problem now is that i can't get my dvd drive t
read or play any discs.. :(. I've checked the device manager and i
says it works fine, but stupid microsoft tells me nothing but lies
LIES, i tell you! Please can someone help me out? I'm sure there ar
some computer geniuses out there that can give me some idea of what
wrong with my drive and hopefully make it work. Any advice would b
greatly appreciated....Thanks in advance

Isolate the Microsoft OS if you feel it lies.
Boot a DOS disc that loads cd drivers and try to read from
it.. or try booting the Windows installation disc.
 
well i've tried all kinds of discs even the driver disc installer tha
came with my computer, but it won't read it either. Is there anythin
else that might be able to help? :

If it won't read outside of windows OS, you might try
blowing it out with compressed air, or if you're a glutton
for punishment then take it apart and generously flush the
lens with a stream of pure alcohol. This of course assumed
you did check the jumpers, cables, voltages, already.
