I'm trying to place the "NoBrowserOption" restriction on my machine for the
limited access accounts (I'm obviously running XP). It does not currently
exist and I am not able to add the restriction to a limited account. I get
an error message saying I can't add a key to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER >
SOFTWARE > POLICIES > MICROSOFT registry. I need to add Internet Explorer >
Restrictions > "NoBrowserOptions" dword to "1".

I did add the restriction to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (same parameters), but
the limited accounts are still able to access the internet options under the
Tools menu.

I'm stumped. Anyone have another suggestion?

Thanks

Larry,
" I get an error message saying I can't add a key"
What error message?
Hint: "Limited Users" are usually restricted from making Registry entries.
You *may* need to increase the privilege level, add the needed
restrictions, then reset the level back to "Limited"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Restrictions]
"NoBrowserOptions"=dword:00000001

Try this instead: (written by another MVP)

I did ask you suggested, however it didn't work.

Now I'm again out of ideas.

What didn't work?
Did you use Doug's "Security Console" [freeware]?

If that entry is correct it *will* generate a message when the user
tries to access the Tools | Internet Options menu.

"This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect
on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

Clicking "Internet Options" on the Tools Menu Returns Error Message

Sorry, my mistake for being unclear. I tried the option of classifying that
account as "computer administrator" and then edited the registry
accordingly. That is what I meant by "didn't work."

I'll try the console.
