When we last booted up our computer the resolution is
stuck on 800 by 600 and the color is at the lowest 4 bit.
we cannot change either one. I was able to change the
theme which improved things some, but using the control
panel the resoltuion and color appear to be frozen. Any
ideas? thanks!

Install the XP driver for your graphics card/chip.

OR
In Device manager, delete your display driver, and reboot.
Windows will automatically reinstall it at boot.

OR
Use "System Restore" and roll your PC back a couple days when the
video was fine.

Two. The least likely is the card is partially unseated inside the case.

Most likely is you have the wrong (or none) drivers installed. Windows has chosen a fail safe driver.

In the settings dialog where you change resolution there is an advanced button. Click that then Adapter, Properties, Driver, Update.

Post back with details from these dialogs if that doesn't help.
