I am trying to do a repair install with the XP CD. I got to the point where
I need ot enter my license key but I don't have it available. Now I can't
get out of the set up. I have tried force rebooting but it keeps coming back
to the set up and requires the cd. It goes back to the screen requesitng the
ky. How do I get it out of the set up?

Thanks

Have you tried looking on the side or bottom of your PC for the sticker that
has the key code?

Yes, when I enter it it says it isn't valid.

Are you reinstalling with the exact version of XP with which your
computer was originally installed? If you have the sticker on the side
(or bottom if a laptop) of your computer, you have an OEM version. You
need to install using a matched disk; i.e. OEM Home/Pro/MCE.

More details from you will get you more focused help.

AS far as I know it is the same version.

I just want to quit the set up and it won't let me. I'm stuck in set up
even if I reboot the computer.

Boot with a Win98 boot disk and use fdisk to delete the existing
partition(s) and create a new one. If you don't have one, then get one
from www.bootdisk.com. Then boot with the XP cd that came with your
computer. I don't know what you meant by saying that the key wasn't
available and then in another post you said the sticker *was* on your
machine. So carefully write down the number, being careful with the
B's, 8's, and Q's.
