Strat menu slow

Have Xp Pro and the start menu has become very slow (15 seconds to display anthing, sub menus etc) it used to be fine. Have tried the standard fix of turning off 'Shadows under menu' effects option, it made no difference. Any suggestions??

Install Tweakui it has an option to set the menu speed.
