Windows XP Home Edition, EMachines computer. This error just popped up from
the task bar: "A USB device has requested more power than the hub can
provide." I looked the error up on MS's website, which advises to replace
your passive hub with an active one. However, at this time, there is not a
single USB device connected to the computer.

Any ideas what is going on?

Check Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Double
Click each Root Hub, Power (Tab) and check the Power required.
Possibly, just a transient spike that triggered the message. I'd take
a look at your System Event Log and check for error(s). Might be
a good idea to update the Chipset Driver for the eMachine.
