strange standby behaviour

Greetings:

Sometimes when my XP is on standby it wakes up for no reason (I didn't
touch the keyboard nor move the mouse). This irks me, is there any
cause for these strange wakeups or is there a way to prevent them?

If the computer is networked this may be due to that your network card
is allowed to wake the machine. You can disable this in the Properties
for the card in the Device Manager.

Some program must be attempting to run to bring it out of
standby. Things like automatic or scheduled updates will
do this. I manually update everything and turn off all
auto updates in windows and any other program like my anti-
virus software. Keep smiling.

Vibrations can awaken the mouse, particularly if left on a hard
surface - closing a door, walking past, etc. Think of it as though it
was a glass of water, doesn't take much to disturb the surface. I keep
my mouse on a piece of foam and go into standby via the keyboard.
