I hear a strange sound from the cpu occationally, since last week. A sound

It should stop when it runs out of gas ;-)

When you run a program, that use a lot of resources, that is normal.
If not, then overheating.

From my own experience, hard disk problem can also lead to this.
When I replaced the broken hard disk, it is back to normal.

A cpu has no moving parts and is always entirely silent.

Any noise you hear from your computer can only be from a drive or from a
fan, never the cpu.

I can't tell you which it is from a distance, but if it's the hard drive, it
may well mean that the drive is about to fail. Be sure you have a current
backup of anything you can't afford to lose.

If it's a failing fan, you may not be getting adequate cooling, and that can
cause components to fail. A failing fan should be replaced asap.

You need to determine which it is; get professional help if necessary.

It's probably the fan on your CPU. You'll need to fix it immediately or else the CPU can (I mean WILL) overheat and burn out. Turn
off the system, then clean out any and all dust from the fan. You can start by simply blowing the dust out (you may want to have a
vacuum handy to prevent it from landing it other parts of the system.) You could also use a can of compressed air (it's like
blowing really, really hard). Another thing you could do is use a toothpick or other fine instrument to clean out the dust in the
fins of the heatsink on top of the CPU.

If it still makes noise, then the fans got more problems than just dust. You could disassemble the fan, clean it, and oil it (and
of course put it back together), although it may just be easier-albeit not as free-to buy a new one.
