i was having problems with the performance of my pc. it
is P4 2.4ghz 533 bus 512 ddr ram windows xp home. i see
in the program files in drive c a program i have no idea
what it does, or where it came from. the program is
called "xerox". the name is in all lower case, since all
of the programs in drive c ,program files, start with a
capitol letter "xerox" caught my eye. i tried to delte
it, it will not let me. says another user or program is
using the file. i have used spybot s&d and "xerox" does
not appear on it. what is this program and what does it
do ? i suspect it is a "R.A.T." or other type of spy
ware. all i know about it is the date it was modified. 8
may 2003. anybody got any thoughts ?

Hi,

"Xerox" tells me it is likely to be printer or scanner software, possibly
loading at boot - not harmful, but perhaps annoying. Check to see what is
loading at boot, start/run msinfo32, expnad the software envirnoment and
click on the startup programs - this should provide some clues.
