this two computer network has been working fine, til now. All of a sudden on
the 2nd machine I can connect to google, do a search with google and it's
all normal, but google is the only website I can get!! If I try anything else
the page starts loading and the bars get half way and simply stop doing
anything at all.

I've been fiddling around with this for days. Any help welcome!!

Is the computer 100% virus and malware-free? If you think so, what did
you do to determine this? Did you install any software that might have
"protected" your hosts file?

i ran numerous scans. Is there any other way to determine a clean system? No
I have installed nothing to protect the hosts file.

BTW, MS spyware tool found a possible hosts file hijack and deleted it on the
first computer but found nothing on the second computer.

It may be the ISC computer i.e. the one that is physically connected to the
Internet. The second computer looks to the ICS (first) computer for DNS
resolution. If something has corrupted the TCP/IP settings of the ICS
computer it will look like it is working OK as it is directed through the
hijacking site for web access. The other computer may not have been hijacked
so it gets mixed up when trying to find sites. Without seeing the setup in
person this is only a guess. I would concentrate on the ICS computer first
making sure it is malware free.
