Strange memory consumption by WinXP ?

Hello,

I have noticed a very strange behaviour lately (since about a week by now)
when it comes to memory consumption of WinXP.

Most of the times, when I boot WinXP the task-manager shows a memory
consumption of about 100MB.

But suddenly, and for no apparent reason these 100MB become about 500MB when
I boot my machine again.

I have tried in vain to isolate the problem by restoring earlier (Drive
Image) images of my hard-disk and by playing with the WinXP restore feature.

Did anybody have this problem before? and is there a reason/solution for it?

Thanks

On Task Manager under View select "Select Columns..."
Then either VM Size or Mem Usage should help you see what is using
memory.

Thanks Todd,
I should have said it in my first post, sorry.
All the processes are taking up 3 to 4 times the "normal" amount of memory.
This is really very odd, I've never seen this before.
