Strange keyboard behavior fixed with RESTORE

I still cannot set a new Restore point, but this morning
encountered truly alien responses from the keyboard. It
began while I was doing crazy things trying to get to
the SYSTEM PROTECTION tab on the PROPERTIES dialog box,
which unfortunately remains invisible. Some of the keys
on the right side produced unexpected (but consistent)
characters. For example, i generated a 5, o produced 6,
etc. That happened in all applications, so it was in the
system. I have no clue.

Eventually I went to a Restore page that allows me to go
to a previous date (but not to set a new one!), and all
was well.

I'm about 80% of the way to a new system install, and
have saved all the installers for my apps and all my
data folders. Frustrating...

And for the record, there is no virus or other malware
on this unit.

To set a restore point go to Control Panel, System, Advanced system
settings, System Protection tab and create your restore point.

Hi, Hank. First, about the " crazy " keyboard. If you look Closely ( with a
magnifying glass, maybe ), you'll notice that the following keys have 2
symbols Each: U I O P J K L ; M , . /
they are 4 5 6 * 1 2
3 - 0 < . + correspondingly. They are your NUMERIC KEYPAD.You know
, for math.
As to set a new restore point, it's easy now that you know how to backdate
to restore.Go back to the window(page ) BEFORE you see the backdates. Look
for the OPEN SYSTEM PROTECTION ,( IT'S AT THE BOTTOM) click that. In the
new window click the box CREATE. Follow the prompt , start typing. When
finish, click CREATE again. Wait for notiication that the " create " is
successful. Now you have a new restore point for the future. Close all those
windows.If you want, wait a little while, go back to system restore, check
for the dates, and the new restore point will be there.
