I have seen this before, but cannot remember how to solve this.

I have a user who occasionally gets an icon on his desktop with a Windows
logo, and it is names "~"
When opened in Excel it shows email addresses.
When deleted, it reappears a few days later. It has a file size of 178KB

What do you think?

Hi,

The tilde (~) is a result of this patch:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/330994/default.asp
The file is created when certain changes are made to your address book.
The files can be safely deleted. It recreates automatically, you can ignore
this.

It is a temporary copy of the address book, made while you are doing any
updates to it. Once you finish editing, the temporary copy *ought* to
get deleted, but does not, so do it manually
