Strange Cough remedy

"... and your cough will be completely treated." ... bold claim. :)

Funny, but it does work ... now I have the perfect excuse to tell my Diabetic Nurse why I have to have some honey in the pantry.

My Grandfather was a dispensing chemist in fact one of the first chemist for Boots the Chemist's and was the dispensing chemist for Edward 7th. In those days the the remedies were made up by the chemists as were the any pills or liquids that were prescribed by the doctors. When Boots were bought out by the Americans in the late 1920's he resigned (as he said I am not working for the bloody Yanks"). Any way I digress that is what he made if any of us who had a cough and he swore by it.

I need to make this for Ian sometime - he is always prone to coughs, and loves onions, so this would be perfect :thumb:

I remember Collis Browne's cough treatment liquid. As an irresponsible youth we used to buy bottles of it and drink the lot in one go cos we thought it was a cheap high. It had morphine in it you see.

It never really worked though, just gave you a bellyache followed by the runs. I wonder if that stuff is still sold?

As for the remedy mentioned here, my Irish father-in-law (ex, deceased) swore by something similar to that, may have even been the same thing.
