Strange behavior with System Cleanup

I ran System Cleanup a few days ago with no problems. I tried to run it
today and it just sat there forever during the file compression phase. I
canceled the operation but after that everything ran real slow on the
system. I brought up the Task manager and under processes it still showed
the cleanup manger still running with 99%. I re-boot the system but it
still was slow and the taskmanager still showed it running. I had XP shut
itself down and when I re-started the computer everything was normal. When
I tried to run Disk Cleanup the problem returned. Anybody know what the
problem is?

Thanks for the help. The tweaks did not work but when I went to your
Microsoft link I edited the Registry and then everything worked fine.
