All Outlook data, whether freshly created or downloaded or archived, is
stored in a PST. The default PST Outlook creates when first installed is
Outlook.pst and it's default location in Windows 2000/XP is in the hidden
folder
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
I lost my outlook data and the pst file is to
longer old.

Search your hard drive, enabling hidden foldes and folders, for all files of
type .pst. You may just find your lost data. If you find any PSTs other
than the archive PST, in Outlook click File>Open>Outlook Data File (or
Personal Folders File, depending on Outlook version), browse to those PSTs
(each in turn - you have to do one at a time), select it, and click OK.
You'll then have access to all the data in it.
