There is a filters.txt file on Windows XP that is supposed
to help with spam but it doesn't work. This file contains
known spam-related keywords and the file is also
customizable. Any ideas on why or how this file works? It
does not appear to be called since I get spam and the
keyword is in the file but it does nothing with it.

thanks - Dave

You obviously didn't read the comments at the top of that file. Read it
again:

"Microsoft Junk E-Mail Filter Readme
The Junk and Adult Content filters work by looking for key words. This file
is a description
of exactly which words the filter looks for and where the filter looks for
them."

Notice the words "is a description". This file is informational only and is
not used in any way by Outlook. You can change it to your heart's content,
but it doesn't affect Outlook's junk mail filter in any way. Modifying the
junk mail filter is a feature of Outlook 2003. You can download updates to
that filter from the Microsoft Office web site, but you can't change it
yourself.
