Stop user from changing check for email send/receive time?

Is there anyway to keep users from changing the check for new email
send/receive time? Outlook 2000 words it as "Check my local network
connection(s) for new mail every xx minutes" and Outlook XP(2002) "Schedule
an automatic send/receive every xx minutes".

I would like to keep users from changing the time. They are changing it to 1
or 2 minutes, which make the mail server work harder. I want to know if there
is a registry entry that either can disable this or set it to a setting of my
choice. Or maybe there is a group policy for this setting.

Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated.

By using polices you can deny them to make changes to the the account
settings. I don't know if support for this goes all the way back to Outlook
2000.

Since this isn't a technical problem but more a behavioral issue of your
users I wouldn't go as far as finding a technical solution for it but for
instance simply charge the deparments more or renegotiate the SLA. Otherwise
they are going to continue doing similar things and basically disrespect the
rules and advise from support personel and you'll end up in a completely
hammered down environment with users nagging that they cannot personalize
settings; you'll always loose.

I was hoping for a registry entry that I go in and set a default time.
Because 99% of my user don't know how to regedit and/or don't know what it
is. For example, I use regedit to disable user in our factory from changing
the screen saver. Actually I disable it. Because they were putting up the
marquee display and putting in bad remarks whenever they get upset over
something and that did not go over very well.

That way I could put it in a logon script

Dear Sir:

I did manage to find in Outlook 2000 under the registry or more exactly
under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Options\Mail

Two entries

Poll For Mail
Poll For Mail Interval

I could not find anything for Outlook XP. If I could these I would be set.
Do you know if they exist?

Randy

Changing the registry doesn't make a difference; it still doesn't prevent
them from changing it through the interface. As I said; the technical
solution would be to enforce policies.
