Stop the Virus Scan

I am using Word 2007 and Norton Internet Security 2008. Each time I open a
document Word runs a virus scan which delays opening the document. I have
read many other questions about the same issue.

I have tried:
- disabling the Microsoft plug- in. I checked in Norton and "Turn on
scanning for Microsoft Office documents" is not checked
- I have searched the computer for officeav.dll and also any file with the
extension .wll to unregister and they don't appear to be on my computer

Any other suggestions?
TIA

Have you ever had any other AV software on this PC?
The warning comes from the AV software. Word has no AV capability.

No. The laptop is only 3 months old and came installed with Norton Internet
Security 90 day trial which just expired and I installed Norton Internet
Security 2008. I know the issue isn't really a Word issue but I think some
other posters on here were able to solve the a similar problem with the
suggestions provided below. Unfortunately, none of those seemed to work for
me? Just wondering if there was another solution posted that I missed.

Thanks for any ideas!

The problem will be attributable to the Norton products. You will have to
take it up with them how to get rid of it. I suspect that you will have to
uninstall Norton, then check their web site for a utility to remove all
traces, reboot before reinstalling.
