Stop Firewall message

I am using XP and I have a red shield with an X in it in my bottom right
hand part of the toolbar. When I log on it keeps coming up

Your computer is at risk
No fiewall is turned on
Click this balloon to fix this problem.

This is very irritating. I looked at the firewall section in the Control
panel and there is no place to suppress this message.

I am never going to turn this firewall on.

How do I get this message to stop coming up. Not just for me but for all my
users of the this machine.

One of the things that is irritating is it looks similar to some scams that
try to get you to press a button to start the process of infecting your
machine such as Spyware Guard.

Thanks,

Tom

Why are you "never going to turn this firewall on?" That would be the
best way to stop the message. Alternatively, if you have one of the
several 3rd-party firewalls that is coded properly, it will inform
Windows of its presence and the message will not appear.

If you are determined not to run any firewall, open Windows Security
Center and click "Change the way Security Center alerts me." Then
uncheck the box for Firewall.

Because I already have a firewall for my network and I don't want to slow my
machine down with another firewall.

That did it.

Click the red shield

In the dialog that pops up, click the bottom-left text about controlling the
way it alerts you. Untick all 3 boxes & click OK

If you don't have a third-party firewall (e.g., ZoneAlarm) installed, the
Windows Firewall *should* be enabled! Those using your computer, as well as
all other computers & users on the internet, are at risk if you're not using
a firewall.

There are many rogues out there (cf.

Guard is not one of them: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html

[Spyware Guard hasn't been updated since early 2006.]

I do use a firewall.

I have a SonicWall firewall so all my pcs are protected.

Open (Windows) Security Center & tell it not to monitor the status of the
firewall...then make absolutely sure that your third-party firewall's always
enabled and working properly.
I do use a firewall.

I have a SonicWall firewall so all my pcs are protected.
