All of the information directs me to deletec drivers and do research as to
what may be happening in Windows however I can't get into Windows. Are there
ways or tools that I can use to figure this out in the Repair feature shipped
with Windows?

Thanks

Are you sure it's:

0x00001008E & not 0x00000008E?

However, 'sr.sys' stands for system restore (system file).

There are 3 main articles on the KBase at Microsoft about this error, but
not the exact one you are experiencing. They are:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330187
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=827663
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=834450

According to the Microsoft site this error was fixed with the introduction
of service pack 2 - obviously not

Did you change any hardware acceleration in the control panel by any chance?
Some articles point to that issue.

The registry key to disable system restore is as follows:

HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsNT\SystemRestore

Create a key: 'DisableSR' (DWORD)

1=enable restriction
0=disable restriction

Hope this helps you solve the issue:

Yes you are right, I didn;t see that typo. It is 0x00000008E. Anyway, how do
I cange the registry values if I can't get into windows? Can I do it from the
dos prompt in Repair from the XP CD?

Thanks,
