Hello,

On each startup of WinXP it runs the ChkDsk utility on my second hard drive
D: but it never finds anything wrong.

That drive has a problem which appears to be an electrical short because it
intermittently loses power and spins down. I have to physically move the
power connector and data cables around which brings it back to life.

I want to stop ChkDsk from running each time I start WinXP. How do I kill
ChkDsk?

repair the power connector....

Try "chkntfs /x e:" where e: is the drive you want to stop chkdsk from
checking. I recommend you replace the drive ASAP.

Pick up a Y connector and connect it to the "bad" power lead. What's
happening is that the power lead from your motherboard has lost it's
elasticity.
