Stop Access automatically filling values into fields

In forms and tables Access (and Excel) will often fill a value into the next
field/control as soon as the field gains focus. E.g. if the value in the
previous field was 1, the value 2 will be automatically filled into the next
field. This is driving us crazy and we'd like to turn it off. I don't know
what this auto-fill function is called so I can't get any information from
Help. Please help.

Access only does this when entering data directly into table datasheets. It
cannot be turned off so the solution is to use a form (where it doesn't happen).
