Hi,

My computer has been running Windows XP for a year without
any problem. But yesterday, while in operation, it has
rebooted suddenly and has never fully loaded windows since.

I've tried to restore the system from a ghost image, but
the computer reboots at every startup : the light blue
screen appears for a second, and then the system HD is
shut down and restarted, causing the computer to boot.

I've formatted the system disk and launched the setup from
the bootable CD. I get a STOP 0x00000050 error with a
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA message even before I can
choose the target setup drive.

The KB indicates that it might be caused by a defective
RAM module, so I've tried to remove and test separately
every four of them. No result. The L2 cache and BIOS /
Video shadowing are off, and I am sure that all my drives,
power supply and cables are working fine. The only doubt I
still have is about the graphics card, could this device
cause a fatal error during "DOS like" phase of setup ?

Any suggestion would be of great help, thanks in advance !

Frederic

Helas ! I've already read many of those articles
concerning the STOP 0x50 error. Microsoft KB171003 was the
closest answer. Accordingly, I've disabled all the items
listed in the BIOS, but it didn't help.

I strongly suspect my graphics card, and the only info I
need before unplugging it is whether or not the video
driver can cause Windows setup to hang (STOP 0x50) in the
initial loading phase (press F6, press F2 for ASR, driver
loading etc.).

Thanks anyway !
