have done a chkdsk which took about 2hrs and seemed to
help but the problem has reoccured.

I have seen some article about a autocheck that will lock
out bad sectors of disk to stop them being used. also if
this is a virtual memory problem, which would explain the
slow refreshing of windows etc?? is there a soultion for
that??
