Still need to track attendance of bus riders

I posted a question a few weeks ago regarding the tracking of our Church's
bus riders' attendance. I still need a solution.

I have a very limited understanding of how to use access. I really don't
know how to do much. What I have is a database of all our riders. Now, we
need to be able to use a laptop or PDA to keep attendance each Sunday morning
(both Churchbound and Homebound, just to make sure nobody is left behind).
We need reports of which riders were present on a particular day, which days
a particular rider has been present, etc.

I have no idea where to start or what to do. Our workers are not very
computer savvy, and I need this to be VERY user friendly. Any help will be
appreciated.

anewuser,
Very "basically", you'll have a tblBusRuns realted to tblRiders in a One
to Many relationship. You would create a form where each time a bus ran,
you'd create a record with BusNo, Driver, Date, StartTime, EndTime, Route,
etc....
A subform on that form would contain the multiple entries of those
Customers who rode that bus on that particular run. Hence the ONE (BusRun)
to the MANY (Riders).
A third table, tblCustomers would contain a list of all people who might
ride any bus. This is just a table to store possible tblRiders values that
will be entered against each bus run. Also, a table tblBuses would contain
all your bus information to provide BusRun entry values.
Hope that gets you started...

If you need someone to build this database for you, I can do it for a very
reasonable fee. Contact me at my email address below.

I told you this 3 times today:
I guess this is your answer ??

Thanks, I'll try to get my son to help me (he has a broader understanding of
how things "fit" together in Access) and hopefully this will be our answer...

I complied with the following suggestion ---

....The issue you are being taken to task on is your offering to help without
disclosing the cost. When you post any of your "call me" messages, you need
to indicate that unlike other offers of help, your help comes at a price.

You should be embarassed for being a persistent P.I.T.A.

Your nothing but a persistent jerk trying to make trouble!!!!

You might want to reconsider your 'business case' you want a very complex
system to solve a rather simple problem.
Most people are able to accomplish what you describe with a pencil and paper
worksheet. A list of names, with a check box alongside. Not all 'data
problems' require an electronicsolution. To further complicate the matter
you state the users are very technically challenged! Again a pointer to the
need for a simple solution.

Now with that said, look around your church members, somewhere hiding in the
background is someone with the time, and knowledge to help you solve the
problem.

What you describe requires:

1. An Access Database
2. A special application to run on a PDA, to collect attendance.
3. An interface application to export/import data from one to the other.

Any of several people here could do that but the cost would most likely
exceed the benefits particularly for a revenue challenged entity like a
church.

Best of luck

Ed Warren.

Poor Steve, you still don't (want to) understand... You are just a sad, sad individual.
IMO you are the one that needs outside help ... (psychiatric)
Your nothing but a persistent jerk trying to make trouble!!!!
In psychiatry this is called 'projection'... A persistent jerk? You are indeed.

You beat me to it there John, good call. I'd have done it FOC too, if only
to stop a certain user's abuse of this group.

You're being childish and downright irrational.

I offered ONE poster a limited free service for a simple problem. That
offer might be repeated for another poster, or (much more likely) it
might not. It's none of your business in any case.

Note that a LOT of us are freelance consultants, as you are; however,
you are all but unique in persistantly and annoyingly posting
solicitations for business on the newsgroup. Can you not understand
that you're out of line?

Apparently you have difficulty in understanding English. I sense your
potential clients stampeding towards the exit yet again.
