Still image quality problem in avi

I have recently started using MM2. Before I start working with the video capabilties of my digital camera, I made a movie with still images. When I save the movie in native .wmv format the quality is as good as I would expect given the lower resolution. However when saving in .avi the quality for a similar resolution setting degrades significantly. Have others seen this? Is there any recommended solution to this problem?

It depends on where you are going with your movie... if for computer
viewing, WMV is best... if headed toward DVD/TV then DV-AVI might be best -
judge it by viewing on the TV.

I do need to be able to share with others where .wmv format is not always viable. When I save in the dv-avi format, that is where I see the significant quality loss at similar resolutions. Any thoughts?

DV-AVI is the best you will get for playback on a TV.... the WMV format
won't work, even if it looks better on a computer.
