Hello
still having problems with lost icons. Here is what I do,
Open yahoo, type ebay, open ebay, click - create short
cut, "says a short cut will be placed on your desk top",
close ebay, close yahoo, go to desk top, look for icon
representing ebay, find it, but it is a blue e, not ebays
icon. Then I remove ebay to the trash , start all over,
I repeat this operation, the "ebay icon" is "sometimes" in
the address bar, sometimes it is the blue e, so when it is
the bay icon, I try to drag it to the desk top, as soon as
it gets there it turns to the blue e. This is happens with
google and others but not all. I did not have this problen
befor. What to do?

These Icons are stored in >>
C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHere\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files

Many ways to do this.

Go here:
http://www.ebay.com/favicon.ico

Right click the ebay icon | Copy | Paste it to your Desktop |
Right click favicon[1].ico | Rename | Rename it to: ebay.ico |
Place ebay.ico in My Documents or wherever | Create a new Ebay shortcut
on your Desktop | Right click the Ebay shortcut | Properties | Change Icon |
button | Browse button | Click: My Documents or wherever | Click ebay.ico |
Open button | OK |Apply | OK

If you move the ebay.ico after customizing your Ebay shortcut, the icon will
revert back to the blue e.
----

IE | Tools | Internet Options | General tab | Settings button | View Files
button | Scroll down to http://www.ebay.com/favicon.ico | Left click
favicon.ico | Drag to Desktop

I have a folder that I keep Icons in >>
C:\Documents and Settings\Wesley P. Vogel\My Documents\ICONS

Try this:
When the site is open go - Favourites > Add to favourites.
There is now a shortcut in you favourites folder.
C:\Documents and settings\[your account name]\favourites.

It worked as you said it would this was a real help I
spent 3 hrs trying to figure this out on my own and in 5
min, with your knowledge and directions it was fast and
easy thank you. John

Wes has explained how to save the customized icons (favicons). Just wanted
to add that unless you specifically save these icons off to the side as
explained by Wes, they will disappear when the browser cache is emptied.
If you are not manually emptying the cache, you may have Internet Options>
Advanced set to empty the cache whenever the browser is closed.

These icons are a customization distributed by the sites - if not present,
the default blue "e" is used instead. The internet shortcuts will still
take the user to the desired site regardless of the icon being used.

Hi Sharon,

The icons may work the same, but why have an ugly, default IE
icon when you can have something that looks kool??

John,

It's always faster when you know how to do something. ;-)

I don't really care about the icons as long as functionality is there.
However, I certainly understand that others feel very strongly about using
and keeping the "kool" icons. ;)

This question has been posted about a gazillion times and I think all from
the same person. Just wanted to reassure them that their internet shortcuts
will still work even if they don't look pretty. :)
