Xp reports a problem with a file by the name of nv4_disp.dll (BSOD). I have
an
NVIDIA graphics card. The system stops responding several times a
day in various programs, causing me to shut the computer off and restart.
I'm very surprised I haven't lost any data.
I was receiving help from Rich Barry who suggested I find out pertinent
info
on my graphics card. I opened my computer and wrote everything down
and posted it but this problem seems to be getting worst.
I went to NVIDIA's web site initially where I downloaded the newest driver
for the
card w/xp. I've since uninstalled reinstalled the driver from Device Manager
4 times
and the problem persists. After I uninstall the driver I even went as far as
deleting
nv4_disp.dll from the System32 folder but xp recreates it somehow with the
same version and the same date (created on my system on Aug. 4, 2004...)
This last time I downloaded the driver for millennium and installed that
and
the version number for this is a tad lower than the one I'm having problems
with.
The system crashes occur 3 different ways:
1) System completely stops responding.
2) BSOD indicates nv4_disp.dll as a problem.
3) Right after installing the Millennium driver I got the BSOD with no file
being indicated as the problem.
I can't really say that every crash is caused by the Display Driver.
If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.
