i have a desktop and a laptop, both run xp-home (laptop was win-98 previously
i connected to work NT network but i upgraded to windows xp-home). home
network is set with linksys wireless router. desktop connected via ethernet,
laptop wireless.
both computers get into the network and i can access files of the laptop
from desktop but not vice versa. i get error "computer is not accessible.
you might not have permissions....."
i have read may recommended articles and can confirm the following
- firewalls are off
- i can ping computers both ways with name or ip address
- guest account is on in both
- computer browsing is on in both
- workstation service is on in both
- server service is on in both
- i can see workgroup and computer in both but can only open files from
desktop to laptop
- ticp filtering is disabled
- file sharing is enable in both connections
- i can see each computer from the other one in computer management "shared
folders\sessions"

i have read many of the suggested links with no success. some specific help
would be greatly appreciated

Rod,

check the permissions and don't forget that there are two sets
of permissions, one for the share and another for the shared
objects like folders or files.

For more details, please have a look at

Rod,

I am having the same exact problem and there are no
answers to be found yet.

Hans,

Windows XP Home does not have permissions...it's Simple
File Sharing. You can set some permissions in Safe Mode
as Administrator, but these don't seem to affect this
problem in Normal Mode.

Just a wild guess - create a non-blank password for both guest accounts?

Mike,

oops, overlooked that it was XP Home. Thanks for the correction.

There are so many messages these days that I read them too
superficially.

My laptop was running in an NT network. i changed the computer name and
added the workbook. there is no option to delete domain but i assume it was
deleted when i upgraded to xp/home. Discussion still open for suggestions.
