This is absolutely ridiculous, every file I have either on CD or from the
windows site that I have downloaded are supposedly corrupt. The extraction
process stops everytime with the same file is corrupt message. I found a CD
that has service pack 1 combined with XP pro, well what do you know I
install that fresh after reformatting the drive and then it black screens on
me and hangs. In fact the installer has failed so many times I have no idea
anymore what to do, I need to update xp so that I can install some important
updates to software I use. This computer is an audio work station.

I tried to slip stream the XP CD files with SP2 and that didn't work either,
the installer reports that the files are corrupt also, but this is not
possible, the SP2 CD is from microsoft and the other files are all from MSDN
in which I am a member. I cannot believe that every file is corrupt, there
has to be something else wrong but what I don't know.

Anyone go through something similar that can help me out.

This doesn't really have anything to do with networking. Obviously
something is wrong with your computer. I can think of a few reasons why
XPSP2 might fail, but since we really don't know much about your
computer (hardware/software), a specific answer isn't possible.

1. Computer might be infested with spyware and/or viruses.
2. Computer might be running pirated copy of XP with or without
activation hack (this is not meant as an accusation, just stating
facts).
3. Some program(s) currently on the computer might be incompatible with
SP2 (virtual drive software for example).
4. Some hardware drivers might be causing a problem.

Well thanks for the reply, as it turned out the intel i815 chipset on my
motherboard couple with having legacy support for USB set to auto and not
off was enough to turn Windows XP into a nightmare. That explained why the
installation would not finish successfully, but why I kept getting corrupt
file error messages I am not sure why, I suppose it has something to do with
some of new security enhancements, beats me, I manage to finally install XP
sp1a and I am happy with that at the moment.
1. Computer might be infested with spyware and/or viruses.

This pc doesn't have access to the internet, its an audio workstation for
recording pro audio
2. Computer might be running pirated copy of XP with or without
activation hack (this is not meant as an accusation, just stating
facts).

No this was a legal and activated version of the software.
3. Some program(s) currently on the computer might be incompatible with
SP2 (virtual drive software for example).

Was a clean install with nothing on the PC, drive was wiped clean each time.

4. Some hardware drivers might be causing a problem.

Bingo, the motherboard was listed as compatible though, funny enough it took
a lot of digging on the ms site to find a kb article that stated the
incompatibility between the chipset -- legacy USB support and XP (applies to
all versions).

Thank for the links I will keep them in mind for future problem should they
arise.

Cheers.
