weekend

my cursor has increasingly become 'sticky' - it sits there & doesn't want to
move, or it skips around. I 'release' it by alternately clicking right & left
until it's mobile again, but it's happening more +& more often. rebooting
doesn't help. Please advise. Thanks, ingrid

Change the batteries in your mouse...
Move the receiver closer to the mouse...
Replace the mouse...

Don't have batteries?
It's not a cordless mouse?
It's permanently attached to the computer?

How would anyone here know that? *grin*

Please provide more information.

Computer type (desktop, laptop, netbook)?
Windows XP _______ Edition?
Service pack __?
Mouse type (wired, wireless, touchpad, trackball, etc)?
Mouse name brand and model, if known?
Latest hardware device drivers are/are not installed for said mouse?

Almost certainly this is an issue with your mouse, not with Windows.
Mouse dirty? Need batteries (if it's a cordless mouse)?

Clean the lint, hair, or other junk piled up in front of the LED for an
optical mouse. Blowing out with compressed may not work if it is hair (get
a tweezers).

Guess the brand and model of your mouse is a secret. Okay, so then are also
further responses.
