Not sure what to do. I have three WD HD 200 gigs in my
pc all on the promise 100tx ata card with the bios
updated for the lastest as well as the drivers within xp
pro without service pack 1. The drives have already been
partitioned with ntfs during a clean windows install and
then formatted with partiton magic. I know there is a
problem regarding the 48 lba. Do I just install the
service pack now and will all be ok in terms of being
able to utilize the total volume of all three hds. Should
I approach the potential problem from another angle
instead of straight updating service pack 1??

Yer you should be fine just installing the service pack.
I have installed drives bigger than 137G without the service pack or the reg
hack and causes no trouble.
Just without service pack it will not see the whole drive untill u install
it then you will have an amount of unpartitioned space.
Might be a good idea to slipstream your xp disk with sp1a so you don't have
to mess around each time you reinstall or anything.
There are lots of sites with instructions on how to do so and it is really
quite simple.

Hi,

If all the HDs are already partitioned into several
drivers and each partition is not bigger than 137GB, the
48bit LBA is not a problem. However, I would recommend
you to install SP1a as soon as possible. Do not choose
express install. You must use broadband modem when
installing SP1a via windows updater.

Someone Please HELP! For some reason Microsoft Update for SP1 is downloading twice on this computer. I checked out Add/Remove Programs & it showed that download was successful yesterday. It's downloading it again from a Failed Attempt to download the Service Pack a few months ago.
