I have 2 laptops with Win XP. They both have a problem once
I go online to my browser. Status code 1073741819 pops up
and then the pc shuts down in 60 sec.

I have gone to Microsoft.com to get a patch, but I can't
stay connected long enough to get the recommended service
pack downloaded to the afffected pc's. When I tried using
a desktop pc using Win ME, I can download the service pack
successfully to a floppy. However, the program won't load
onto the affected pc's because of the different oper. sys.

If anyone can offer a solution to this problem, please post
it to this newsgroup.

Thanx,
Danudge

Enable your firewall before connecting (go to Control Panel \ Network
Connections).

If the shutdown dialog appears, enter:
shutdown /a

This should buy you enough time to download the patch.

Not a quick solution since it can take 2-4 weeks for delivery,
but you can order the Windows Security Update CD that
contains Windows XP Service Pack 1, Update Rollup for
Microsoft Windows XP, and some other recommended
updates. And it will be shipped to you free of charge.
