State of a page

Hello,

I have a Web page with several ASPX Textbox. I added to my page a property
which enables me to know the state of this one. The values of this property
are:
Consultation
Modified
New
Deleted

I wish to change the state of my page if the user changes the values of this
ASPX Textbox on the client side. I want to be able to recover the state on
the server side when the user saves the changes. How I do that? Is there a
tutotial on the subject?

Values can be remember in Session, Viewstate or Cookies.

In this case, when the user posts back to the server (clicks save), you'll
view the values of the TextBox and change the Property of the page
accordingly.
This can then be saved using one of the methods i mentioned above.
You can then call this in subsequent posts to view the state of the page
you've set

Hey, i tried to reply to your mail, but it bounced back.

anyway, here's what i said:

Yes, that would work.

But I think that should be controlled by the button the user presses.

So if they were to press Save, then you would automatically save the data.

What I thought you were trying to do, is keep a state variable for the page
that could be remembered during post back.

So, say the state has the initial state: "Consultation"

And the User clicks update, you could change that state to "Modified"

But if you are trying to work out if the user has changed anything, i.e.
whether you need to save the data, you could:

a) Do as you said:

When you populate the textboxes, save another copy of those values that the
user cannot edit. (in session, viewstate or even hiddens on the page)

When the user clicks a button, check if anything has changed, and then
you'll know what to update.



b) Push this onto the user:

Why not give the user an update button, so if they were to make any changes,
they can click update, and you can save the new data

Is that clearer?
