This is probably elementary, but on start-up, or log-off log on, ICQ starts
up and loads, and loads it's website etc. I don't want this.
Where can I remove this? ie. where are the contents of startup kept? (It's
not listed in the startup menu under the "Start" button)
thanks

Start\run and type in msconfig and click ok or hit enter on your keyboard and then click the startup tab. Uncheck anything you don't want starting at boot. Each and every program has an options configuration GUI and usually this is where you configure how a program will act. Whether it's the "start when windows start" setting or a "run every *****" setting." Always click around the programs tool bar at the top of the screen when it's open to see what options are available to you. This is the only way to experiment and find out what you can and can't do unless you read the help files for the program and they're usually so long you fall asleep before you find what you need. Good luck. {:~)

Do a web search for "startup manager". There are a number of them
out there. These utilities allow you to look in the multiple places
that windows allows you to specify a startup application (the startup
folder being one of them). You should find ICQ in there somewhere.
The startup manager will generally allow you to disable or remove it.

I have the same question. I can't get ICQ to stop loading
and starting every time XP starts. Can anyone recommend
how to remove a program from XP's startup process?
