Hi all and hope this is the right spot for this. Lately been having start
troubles, and been getting a black screen with this error message---
TRAP 0000000D GENERAL PROTECTION FAULT
TR 0028 CRO 00000011 CR2=OOF 00F06F73 CR3=00038000 And a whole bunch
of numbers/letters continuing. When this happens, sometimes I can reboot
right away, sometimes not for like an hour. Also, sometimes when it is in the
"I don't wanna start" mode, the fans wont even spin when I power on. Does
anybody have any idea what the heck is going on? Thanks for your time. Rick

If the fans won't spin at startup, the problem has nothing to do with
Windows. Your system is having serious hardware issues not related to any
OS.

It's hard to say where exactly because the possibilities include the CPU,
the memory, the motherboard, and the power supply. You may very well have
to replace parts, particularly if any of them overheated. Check that the
fans are working and that the heatsinks are unobstructed. You might, or
might not, be able to get the system to limp along reliably by tweaking
BIOS settings, but I personally doubt it.

A fairly important consideration at the moment is whether what's on the hard
disk now is of value to you. If it is, remove it and back it up, or
install another hard disk and use that new one when fixing the other
hardware problems.

Note that if you wind up replacing key components like the motherboard, you
will have to do a repair install of XP and install the new motherboard
drivers. And you should back up your data before doing that.

Hi and thanks for the quick replies. Nope, aint a Dell. It's an Antec case,
with an Athlon 3500+ and has an Asus A8N-E mobo. I actually was thinking
along the lines of hardware more than my software, and was mostly curious if
that error code message meant anything to anyone. Again--thanks for your
time. Rick

yeh, there was a 50 50
chance that you would
come back with that answer.

however i was hoping it would
be the simple matter of a dell
quality control issue.

but it may also be a
simple matter that your pc maker
is using the same components
like dell.

double check you
bios/cmos to ensure that
the ram settings are correct.
of if you have 2 chips then
try using 1 temporarily.
