startup sequence help

I seem to have a rogue program or virus which resets my
browser homepage everytime I boot up. How can I remove
this program? How do I make changes to the startup
sequence that is run every time my pc boots up? I'm
running XP Home edition.

ALEX, Are you sure this is where it is coming from? Go to
MSCONFIG>startup>remove all>reboot. If prob persists go
to internet settings and change your homepage. Be sure to
APPLY and OK.
If this doesn't cure it download a set of small but very
powerful progs: EasyCleaner, DiskeeperLite, Dustbuster.
All free. And,easy to setup and run.
 
1 Browser
a. Visit http://doxdesk.com/parasite/.

b. Buy something like Norton Internet Security (Firewall and antiVirus),
and clean
your System.

2 Startup
a. In Windows Explorer, examine the structure under "C:\Documents and
Settings". You
will see the name of each User created on your PC plus "All Users" and
"Default User".

b. Under "All Users", you will find "Start Menu" which contains Shortcuts,
and Folders with Shortcuts - These appear on the "Start>All Programs"
Menu.

c. One of these Items is a Folder "Start Up". Here you may create/delete
shortcuts
to the Programs you wish to be activated during startup.
BE CAREFUL! The majority of Start Up Programs will be here.

e. A similar structure exists for all other users, where "Start Up" contains
Shortcuts
required only for that User.

f. If you find "Start Up" items here that you want under "All Users", you
may
move them to the "All Users" "Start Up"! BE CAREFUL!

If you download Easy Cleaner, be sure that you have the version
recommended for XP. The older one has done damage.
 
I seem to have a rogue program or virus which resets my
Download Ad-Aware and\or Spybot, both freeware. Be sure to update to
get the most recent protection.
