When I had XP Home Edition, I could go to Help and Support to look at and
modify the programs which load at startup. Now I have XP Media Edition and
that does not appear to be an option. Is there a way to do this?

Go to http://www.sysinternals.com and look for a program called 'Autoruns'.
You may also find 'Processexplorer' interesting.
