startup program question

This has nothing to do with Windows Media Player, per se, just its "starting
up." Hope I got this right. Wmplayer.exe is on my startup list and is
starting in the full-screen mode on each boot-up, no matter what I have
tried, which is obviously not the right thing. If I try to uncheck
wmplayer.exe from the startup list (msconfig, startup), my computer will
only start in safe mode. How can I get wmplayer to start in minimized mode,
or, even better, not to start at all until I want it to? Can I remove it
from the startup list? I'm feeling really dumb here, because I can't figure
how.

I have tried everything I know. I have been hit with a lot of spyware and
have successfully cleaned my computer, but this problem has now cropped up.
Windows Media Player used to just be there, ready to start when I wanted it,
but now it starts up with a restart.

Thanks for your help. Fleur

Removing it from the msconfig\startup list is easy. What I am afraid of is the fact that you state when you uncheck it from that list your machine will then only boot into safe mode. So removing it from the list isn't the problem. First try to check you boot.ini to see if your boot paths are correct. Go>start\run and type in msconfig and then click the boot.ini tab and then click the check all boot paths button. Now if after this your boot path is OK then e:mail me and I will give you the reg route to remove the startup entry. Good luck.
