Startup Problems

When I know switch on my PC, the disk start but does not boot. After
switching off and pressing the power button again it will boot ok.

Also, a freind of mine has a problem that chkdsk always runs when their PC
boots even though they shutdown correctly.

Both are XP Home SP2

For your problem: that is a classic symptom of a failing power supply.
What happens is that the power supply doesn't have enough "juice" to
get the drive up the first few times. After you restart a few times the
momentum of the hard drive is enough to keep it spinning. The solution
is to replace your power supply.
