PC will only run in Safe Mode. I Can't locate the Bootlog but I've checked
the Event Viewer and two errors of note are as follows:

AMDK8 and FIPS failed to start

DCOM got error "This service cannot be started in safe mode" attempting to
start the service with arguments "" in order to run the server.

I'm running WinXP SP. 2
Asus K8V SE Deluxe AMD Athlon 64 board

Any help would be most greatly appreciated.

C:\WINDOWS\Ntbtlog.txt

If... /BOOTLOG is selected from...

Start | Run | Type: msconfig | OK |
Boot.ini tab | Select: /BOOTLOG | Apply | OK

/bootlog = Enables boot logging to a file called %systemroot%\Ntbtlog.txt.

/BOOTLOG - This option tells Windows XP to log everything it does during the
boot process to the c:\windows\ntbtlog.txt file. This can be useful for
diagnosing startup problems by seeing exactly where the boot process is
hanging.

Make sure of this setting...

Start | Run | Type: msconfig | OK |
Boot.ini tab | UNCheck: /SAFEBOOT |
When you see the prompt to restart the computer |
Click Restart

/SAFEBOOT = This switch causes Windows to start in Safe Mode.

SAFEBOOT is unchecked. The following is edited from the ntbtlog.txt. The
drivers that did not load are repeated a hundred times or more save for the
second line and the last 12 lines. perry

Wesley,

Unable to get pc to go into Safe Mode. At startup, it
gives me the option to go into regular safe mode or with
networking or command prompt. Irregardless of selection,
it starts to load various drivers and freezes at
ivicd.sys. Man, this pc is just over a month old and I
just don't understand how my drive could lock up like this.

Try a www.google.com search for that file(ensure it is spelled correctly)

I actually had already done that prior to posting and came
up with nothing. But that is the very last file it stops
at tho.

You may have to do a repair from the install CD, check with system
vendor for method of doing "nondestructive" repair install.

Perry,

I'm having the same problem with my PC and the configuration is as
follows:
- AMD Athlon 64X 2200
- ASUS motherboard
- 7800GT video card

It freezes at ivicd.sys.

I've tried to install using a Win-XP Prof CD but it freezes at
"Starting Windows..." on a blue screen.

I'm asking this this posting was from 2004 december and I hope you
would have got some solution with your PC.

Please help me in this regard, I'm really stuck up with this machine.

Thanks a lot in advance.
Prahlad.

Hello prhld,

I'm having the same problem as you by the sounds of it. In a faile
safe mode boot I reach *ivicd.sys* and get no further.
My PC comprises of the ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe, AMD 64x 4200 and this al
began when I swapped my ATI x600 for a XFX 7600GT. When I tried t
boot it would hang on the loading splash screen. I swapped the car
back to the ATI x600 but it still wouldn't boot. I tried variou
system check points but none fixed the problem. I was able to boo
into Safe mode without fail so I tried removing software, drivers
though may have corrupted or something... nothing. Sometime later
lost the ability to boot into safe mode but here I could see where i
stopped *ivicd.sys*. Whether that is significant I don't know.

The weird thing is, I reinstalled XP cos my files are on anothe
partition so it wasn't such a big deal. It got going fine, I put SP
on restarted then installed all the main drivers and on the nex
restart I got the same prob!

I'm now concerened this may be hardware... my pc is only 6mnths old.

Please let me know if u find anything out. I have more tests do do an
will do likewise.

Le

Hope you got this issue resolved.

I recently had this problem - the system would boot fine up to
ivicd.sys, then black screen and restart. Safe mode wouldn't work at
all, so I ended up booting to the CD, getting to the repair console,
navigating to c:\windows\windows32\drivers\ and renamed the file
ivicd.sys to ivicd.sys.old. I rebooted, went in to safe mode,
uninstalled the Intervideo suite (I never used it), booted up again and
I was good to go.

FWIW, I'm running XP Media Center Edition and had installed the WinDVD
Suite, which included Photo Album 1.0, DVD Copy 2.5, WinDVD Creator 2
and Disc Master 2.5.

What problem? You haven't quoted the message to which you reply so it's out
of context. Best not to post a new question as an add on to a previous
thread, called hijacking. Create a new post.

Hi gspot

Did you see the previous posts in the thread? It seems Intervideo
software has been "fingered" as the culprit in some cases. . .do you
have that installed?

And we've no idea what "same problem" you're talking about. Anyway,
with a two month old PC, the obvious thing to do would be to contact the
manufacturer for warranty support.
