Just curious... I deleted some adware from my xp system,
when I ran msconfig I saw it was there as well. I
unchecked it, but would like to know if and how I can
delete it permanently from that startup list.
Thanks in advance,
JS

.
In the registry editor, (regedit.exe) you can go to these
keys to remove certain items as desired or needed;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\Run

Another option is go to www.lavasoft.nu and download ad-
aware and go to download.com and get Spybot and run them
both to clear your system of any and all known spyware.

See Tip 148 in MVP Kelly's site: Clear Disabled Items from Msconfig Startup
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

NOTE:
The disabled startup items are moved here:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg]

Run Ad-Aware to eliminate the spyware in the system.

Jim and all others who responded,
Thank you for the advice. However, Jim, I would like to
continue with your suggestion. I had searched the
registry and deleted all the keys I could find for this
adware. I did a double check in the two directories you
suggested in particular and there is no sign of this
program. However, it still exists in the startup tab of
the msconfig, any other suggestions??

Ramesh,
Thank you so much for pointing the way to the XP
Tweaks page, especially #148, it worked like a charm. I
also see some other useful little tidbits there..Thanks
again, Jill

Welcome, Jill. Yes. Kelly's site is a good knowledgebase. Also, see the a-z
page. All the issues are covered there.
