When starting windows pro the system seems to stay on the welcome window for
a long period

Can this be changed?

It used to startup fast

I am experiencing exactly the same problem with my XP Pro. I hang on the Welcome screen for several minutes and then all seems ok. I found an entry in Microsofts knowledge base suggesting a problem with hibernation but, in my case, I am not doing any hibernation. Also, I get this from a cold startup and not only a restart. Someone must have the answer.

This is strange because I am experiencing the samething. after startup and after I choose which user account to open and it opens to the desktop it takes about 2 to 3 minutes before I get the (windows default) sound bite which normally happens when I click on the user account picture before the desktop pops up. Its seem as if the systems is hanging, this is a new problem system has been running great.

Same problem occurring here. Has just started doing this within the past
week. From a cold start or a reboot, the system visually looks like it has
started properly however, the usual start up music does not play until after
a considerable delay and only then does the start up complete with the
loading of my Norton Internet Security program.

I was looking for info on the same problem, now I see there's lots of us. I suppose we can do nothing but posting messages with the hope that someone more knowledgeable will suggest sth.

If you mean that once you click to login, windows sits for a while before
doing anything, a common issue could be installed scanners and their device
drivers. Ensure you have the latest drivers for your scanner (if you have
one) and try unplugging it before starting and seeing if that fixes it.
Also, remember to use windowsupdate.microsoft.com to check for any critical
updates (especially download sp1)

i have the same problem, there is no scanner installed on my machine o
anything untoward. For the past 12 months, xp (home edit) starts u
quite quickly and shows the desktop with all the icons. However,
can't do anything for a good 2 minutes. i can click icons, but nothin
loads until the 2 minutes are up.

it seems very odd that others have the same problem, but there seems t
be no official ms acknowldgement or fix for it.

i can't find a fix anywhere

I have the same problem - I found out that it is my anti-virus
software that is slowing it down. I use Norton Internet Security. I
haven't found out anything to change it.
