Some annoying adware program invaded my computer. I've gotten rid of
it, but now when I start up, my system opens to windows explorer (with
the focus on My Documents)and I have to close it to see my desktop.
Any suggestions on how to open directly to the desktop? Thanks!

Check your startup settings to find out what is causing this. There
may be some invalid entry left that belonged to the adware.
Applications that start with Windows can be found here:
- the WIN.INI, section [windows], entries "run=" and "load="
- the Registry keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
- the folders
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\{username}\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
