Startup files corrupted

Since two or three days, the other 3 users of our home computer have lost
their "theme" (desktop). It has been replaced by an unknown, gray modified
theme, cut off all the shortcuts and startup items and the access to ms
office, especially outlook. Is there a way to return to the original state
without reinstalling everything and is the cause spyware or a virus? I have
run an updated McAfee, Ad-Aware and the Anti Spyware Beta by MS. My theme has
not been affected and I don't understand why. The user which "caused" the
modifications is a limited user, one of the affected accounts is an
administrator. How can a limited user account cause so much trouble?

Johan, If your scans showed nothing then I would suggest using System Restore
to try and resolve the problem.
Limited a/c's can affect other users if the files are "All Users" files
instead of account specific files.

Ok, Mike, System Restore didn't work. What else could I do? Hasn't anybody
else encountered this thing? Couldn't I get back to the original system by
destroying the attacking file?
