I used to have a window that had 3 icons at shutdown,
they were standby, restart and shutdown. now i get a
window with a dropdown box asking to choose...

at shutdown the screen looks different, i used to have an
entire screen with the Windows XP logo and a
blue 'activity' line going across with a message as to
what is being done at shutdown. now i get a small window
with a different look and a blue background. can anyone
help? i miss my old settings...
thanks!

Hi,

It appears that you have disabled fast user switching I think it's
called. It's possible that a program has done so for you. I had a
program called PC Anywhere v10 that did it to my system and I had to
either delete the program or get an update that made it compatible with
XP Pro, (it worked ok in Home Edition).

Anyway, go to Control Panel, then look for User Accounts. When you're
there you should see something that says "Change the way users logon and
off" or something similar. There you should be able to "enable fast user
switching" and "Use The Welcome Screen". If not, then some app or
utility is disabling Fast User Switching.

I hope this helps as it is what happened to me.

Something illuminating. When you come to the main [User Accounts] window,
as Chet said, you'll see the [Change the way users log on and off]. On the
Lt. pane, look for [Logon options] under [Learn About]. Click that and you
will find your [Classic logon prompt] together with the one you want back,
the [Welcome logon]

Go back two windows. Put a tick to [Welcome logon]. Easy when you know
how. :o)
