Mary

I am in the process of cleaning up old files and ran across this one. I
like it though because it is so easy to disable startup items as compared to
typing in misconfig, etc. The program is no longer supported as far as I
can see.

Any other programs out there similar to this one? Maybe its okay to keep
using such an old program.

Thanks for any help

Mary

MsConfig is a program that comes with XP that didn't come
with previous NT O/S's, but came with 95/98/ME. I'd keep
it because it is useful. The best way to clean out your
harddrive is a good format. I'd recommend it and all you
need is your XP cd.

If StartMan still works fine then keep using it. But, if you want to get a
new one to try then go the www.mlin.net. Mike Lin writes great little
utilities and he has a good Start up program there. When I say great little
utilities you will see what I mean when you see how small the programs are in
kb's.

Well formating your hdd is totally unnecessary.

I know of lots of guys who do this because they believe Windows hides
some things somewhere and they'd better remove any possible trace.

The truth is that there are only three folders:
Windows
Program Files
Documents and Settings
and few boot files.

Rename them to something else and you already have a clean system.
Without all the formating and stuff.

I like to keep my system in good shape instead of reinstalling Windows
every couple of months. I don't reinstall Windows more often than once
an year.

Even when I buy new HDDs I copy the whole old drive on it and it still
works pretty well.

So this thing with the necessity to format of hard drives is just a
myth.

BTW. You can find a very good startup manager here:
