Our PC 'hung' when turning off the other night, so we
simply powered off. When we next switched on during the
boot process it ran scandisk and found no problems and
continued the boot process for a few moments and came up
with another message that it could not open windows,
giving options to try windows normally, last known good
configuration or safe mode - unfortunately none worked and
we are caught in a constant re-boot loop.

As windows was pre-installed when we purchased our new
machine, I don't have the program disks. I have managed to
make a system floppy on another machine so have managed to
get to the c:\ prompt. Is there a command I can enter from
here or one of the subdirectories to launch XP ?
Any suggestions / help very gratefully appreciated. Thanks
in anticipation.

Sender; Safe mode would be your best bet. to start
Windows XP in safe mode. hit F12 to enter Windows Setup.
Select Safe mode without networking. once you enter safe
mode, run your antivirus program. it will be faster
because all your third party driver's have been disabled.
also; OEM's now usually put their Windows XP master disk's
on a different partition on the hard drive. if this is a
reoccuring problem then you probley have to Reformat your
hard drive and start windows from scratch. you would need
to contact your OEM for instuctions to do this. Also, your
OEM takes care of Windows XP Problems. since it came from
them.

Thanks and good Luck.
